I figured out how to make my blogroll show in order of updatedyness, the only problem being that it is in fact just a randomiser so far as I can tell. Jess’s blog is top of the list at the moment, when I know for a fact that Simon, Stu and my sister, and my Photoblog have all updated more recently than Jess. I’m sure I’ll get it sorted sooner or later.
It’s been a busy few days as it turns out. On friday evening we managed to get some downtime finally. We watched the first in the new series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and generally lazed about. So in fact that first statement was a complete lie, it hasn’t been a busy few days, only a busy two days.
Saturday morning I did some work on the car, but only got a quarter of what I wanted to do done. Then we realised we had no food whatsoever, so we went to the Co-op and got stuff for lunch. In the afternoon we went to Eastbourne to pick up a shiny new mobile phone for Sarah who is very excited about it, and to trapse round every shop looking for a pair of boots for Sarah to wear to Rob & Ju’s wedding. We didn’t find any.
In the evening we wen’t to Diane’s (a friend from work) engagement party, which was quite good. The DJ seemed to have a ‘the best of the worst party songs ever’ album which he played punctuated by ‘obscure hits of the 80s’. It was good fun sitting with Neil and trying to identify the songs and artists though.
Sunday was busy with church activities, and the selling of my old car, which was nice. The money from that will be going toward the iMac I want. We also caught up on Robin Hood which we’ve been recording since we’re way too busy to watch when it’s actually on TV.
Another easy night tonight I hope!
Maybe I’ll have something interesting to write about one day soon…
I’ve started a photoblog to run alongside this main blog at photorob.blogspot.com/. It’s purely for entries that come directly from my mobile phone. So check it out. There’s a link on my blogroll too.
Hopefully Stu will tell me how to sort it so the most up to date things on my blogroll will be at the top of the list, so you’ll all know when I’ve posted on it!
For those of you that are wondering, although I have a new phone and contract, I do not have a new number. The nice people at 3 and tesco are doing some clever things to transfer my old number to my new phone.
Apparently it changes over on 1st Nov, when they tell me I’m likely to recieve messages and calls on either or both phones, so that should be a fun day! until then I’m having to carry both. one to make calls and the other to recieve.
So yes, I am keeping my old number, which is:
not going to be published here (I may be stupid, but not that stupid). If you want it then give me a call and I’ll tell it to you.
Tonight is pub quiz night, so we’re gonna go early and have dinner there. There’s a ton of guys from work all going so should be fun, although I always get blamed for every wrong answer!
I got a new phone today!
Which is very exciting. After much trawling through the internet to find a good deal, I went to the three shop to get a contract phone. I decided on the Sony K610i in the end, as it was a good deal on the tariff etc. Plus I got a free bluetooth headset because the girl lied to me about how many months I can have for half price. I also get £30 free credit because I put down Nicky from work as a recommendy person. So if I now recommend Sarah, we both get £30 credit, and so on until I’m a millionairre. I wonder if they’d exchange it for hard cash. Doubt it.
As you may have guessed from the entry title, we’re back online again.
As I expected, they had tried again to deliver the router to our flat yesterday, but by this morning the message from sky had got through and they’d redirected it to my office. Everyone at work was confused as it was addressed to Miss Ardern (Sarah’s maiden name) but luckily Neil recognised my address and it got to me ok.
The other exciting piece of post today was that Sarah’s murder Mystery party has arrived, which judging by her email reply when I told her, she’s quite excited about.
Finally, I went ahead and ordered the cool thing for sarah today. Unfortunately it’s not available until 14th November, so she’ll have it a couple of days late, but it’s wicked so it won’t matter. I tried to get it shipped from the US, but it would end up costing double after shipping. It’s really cool. I still wish I could tell you about it. You’re really gonna love it when you find out!
On friday night we went to see Jeff Green at the paramount comedy festival in Brighton. Seriously funny stuff! I’d seen him on television once or twice before. There were several points in the show where I actually couldn’t breath for laughing. Obviously it was his high level of intelectual humour that appealed to me…
Ok, you got me. It was the bottom jokes.
Continuing the saga of the pipex to sky broadband changeover, I recieved a letter from sky on friday (20th October) saying that “it won’t be long now!”, and that “BT expect to have activated the broadband on your phone line by October 18th”.
Brilliant. Given that today is the 20th, the line still doesn’t work, and I haven’t yet recieved my router and info pack, that information is of great use to me!
They did actually try and deliver the router pack on friday, however both Sarah and I were at work, where we earn money in order to pay for goods and services such as broadband. The delivery company wont deliver outside of office hours, and therefore will never deliver our router. After chasing around trying to find a phone number where we could speak to a human being rather than a machine who wants our credit card numbers, we established that sky could fax them my office address and have it redirected there. So we then called sky who said they would arrange for this to happen. I haven’t recieved the router here yet, but the day is not over.
I’m willing to bet that I’ll get home to find another ‘we tried to deliver’ card on the doormat.
Oh yes. Other exciting things: Sarah has chosen a murder mystery party to have on her birthday which is fast approaching. It looks like a lot of fun, we just need to decide which of her friends we’re going to murder. We like to do these things properly you know.
I think I’ve found a really cool present for her too. since she found out about the feeling concert, I’ve not really been counting it as a present, but I got her one other thing already, and I have another two in mind. It’s really cool, I just wish I could write about it!
One more thing: WELL DONE ALONSO! GOOD RIDDANCE SCHUMI!
We went to The Joogleberry Playhouse with Rob & Ju last night, where we heard some Flamenco / Candela fusion. It was really good fun and the music was great. the playhouse has a definite Jazz club feel about it, and the interior decor is very cool. For some reason though, when the band weren’t playing I kept expecting to hear the theme from the avengers amongst the ambient music they play. That one’s unexplainable I think.
In other news, I recently arranged to switch my broadband provider from Pipex to Sky, who assured me that the switchover would be more or less instant. So last night when I discovered that I could not connect to the internet, I called them up and they explained that they had cancelled my pipex broadband, but not yet activated the sky broadband, it’d take up to ten days. “ah” I said, “so this is a new definition of the phrase ‘more or less instant’ of which I was previously unaware”. They ummed and ahhhd a bit but there’s basically nothing I can do but wait. So I can only blog while at work for the time being.
Still I expect I’ll get to spend more time in the evening with my lovely wife now that there’s no internet.
Since he released that new single, the world seems to have gone Hoff crazy! He’s mentioned on the radio daily, and all over the web (including my blog unfortunately, although I was taking the mickey out of him so I don’t think that counts). I even found a test to determine which ‘Hoff’ you are!
Incidentally I am:
Baywatch Hasselhoff

“You are Baywatch Hasselhoff. You’re up for running around on the beach with hotties, as well as tanning, smiling, and being as buff and sexy as being Hasselhoff will allow. You also like to think that you’ve actually saved a few lives as a lifeguard; but that’s just the product of some other, far more sinister, psychological ‘quirk’.”
Take this quiz at QuizGalaxy.com
So I am officially joining my sister‘s campaign to ‘BAN THE HOFF’
I still think knightrider is cool though.
First off, an apology.
It’s been a week since I last blogged, and even that one wasn’t very exciting. The reason for this is I’ve been off work ill and did not feel good enough to sit at my PC (else I could’ve done that at work). In any case, the fact I was ill meant I hadn’t left the flat and so I had nothing to blog about except daytime TV. I didn’t even watch much of that either.
It was my Grandad’s 80th birthday this last weekend, so still feeling rough, I plonked myself into the car friday evening and Sarah drove us back to Southampton. It was also Sarah’s dad’s birthday, so saturday we had lunch at a lovely pub in the new forest called the trusty servant. Then the rest of the day was setting up, and then having Grandad’s birthday party.
There’s a certain stigma about family partys that they are always a chore and nobody actually enjoys themselves, but this party was genuinely fun. I caught up with lots of family I haven’t seen for the best part of 5 years, and only paid for one drink the whole evening.
We helped pack up after the party and then dropped my Grandparents home at around midnight. We’d already decided we wanted to be home for church on Sunday, so from there we came back to Sussex and finally got to bed at around 2:15.
I managed to keep my eyes open for church in the morning, and then in the afternoon we had a very exciting trip to argos and asda.
That was a lie actually, it wasn’t exciting at all.
At argos we bought a new TV stand as I was fed up of not being able to get to the cables behind all my AV equipment. So the afternoon was then spent constructing said unit, and reassembling the TV and things.
In the evening we had 14:29 (youth church) but luckily we’d arranged for the kids to do pretty much the whole evening themselves so Sarah, Phil and I didn’t need to do much. I did play guitar for some of the music, but I didn’t have to lead it so all was good.
After that we wen’t to see my friend Gavin, who I work with, at a gig he was playing at the Pavillion Tavern in Brighton. He was really good, as were the rest of his band who Phil turned out to know most of. It was a really good evening. Keep you eye on Gavin’s myspace. If He ever plays near you then make sure you go cos he rocks!
On wednesday we’ve agreed to go to some bar with a weird name like joogleberries or something with our friends Rob & Ju from church to see a couple of guys with guitar type things doing Flamenco/Arabic Fusion or something that sounds like that.
Tonight I’m going to take it easy because I am knackered. A hot bath followed by food, a film, a bottle of rosé and lots of sleeping are all on the cards.
Wow I’ve rabbited on for ages haven’t I?
You may have heard the song, but you really do need to see the video. If it was anyone else, then this would be unquestionably funny and a great laugh, but because it’s the Hoff, there’s just that tiniest niggling thought that maybe, just maybe he’s for real…
Decide for yourselves:
Weekends are always a relief.
I’m very much a lazing about in bed kind of person. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job, but If I never had to stop snuggling under a warm duvet then I probably wouldn’t.
This weekend, however, there won’t be much of that going on as it’s Big Story weekend. So after I finish work today, I shall be rushing home, packing my bag, setting my HDD recorder to tape Robin Hood tomorrow, attempting to reauthor three of my promotional videos for The Big Story (so that they have soundtracks that can be put onto a DVD without breaking copyright law), collecting Sarah from uni and then driving to Southampton. It’s going to be a long evening. I should have done the videos last week, but never got around to it. I doubt I’ll manage to do one tonight, let alone three.
Saturday will involve spending some time with my Mum who’s birthday was last Monday, then going to central hall where I’ll lead a (rapidly diminishing) team of technicians in setting up cameras and visual mixing gear, and then spend the evening making whatever is on stage look good on the big screens.
Sunday will probably entail sorting out my Dad’s digital photos onto CDs for him, maybe a roast dinner, then driving home to Peacehaven where I’ll spend an hour putting together and practising a playlist for the worship music at 14:29 (the Youth service at my church) that evening. I might have time for a sandwich before we actually go to that meeting.
Afterwards I’ll either go play pool (or a similar activity) with Phil, one of the other youth leaders, Or I’ll go home and collapse so that I have a vaigue sense of proffesionalism at work on Monday.
I hope to find time somewhere in amongst this to catch up with my mate Jess and my sister, but who knows what will happen.
So yeh, thats my weekend. Are you bored of reading this yet?
