Alright?
Have you ever notices how we use the term ‘alright’ as a greeting? One passes a friend/colleague in a corridor or something and says ‘Alright?’ to which they reply ‘Alright’. It doesn’t make any sense. I’ve partaken in this odd ritual for years, but lately it’s begun to bother me. When some one replies with an ‘alright’, I wan’t to say “No, actually what you’ve done there is to totally fail to answer my question. Have another go”. So far I haven’t said that, but it will be fun to try it out one day.
So having said that I couldn’t make it to Southampton to see Amber May this weekend, I took yesterday off work on impulse (having had the car fixed, so it’d make the journey) and drove down there. I spent the day with Lou, Gareth and Amber, who I held for a whole 5 minutes before she threw up. I escaped unscathed though. My Dad managed to bribe me into staying the night by offering me chinese food, and a breakfast at Kingsland cafe (which is the best cafe in the whole world. Don’t argue). The journey back was horrendous because of a huge storm that slowed the motorway traffic to about 30mph. It eased up about half way though.
After I got back, we went to Seaford for my opticians appointment. My glasses are really manky as they’re so old, and my prescription has changed too. I chose some snazzy new frames plus some wraparound sunglasses which Sarah can’t decide if I look cool or stupid in.
I am slightly concerned though, as the optician found what he thinks is ‘retinal thinning’ in my right eye which he has written to my doctor about. I googled it and found this which made me panic until Sarah pointed out (much to my surprise) that I am not, in fact, a dog.
I haven’t found anything to tell me what it actually is though. Hopefully nothing will come of it, because an optician saw something in my eye about 3 years ago and had me sent to the eye hospital to have it checked out. They poked me with things and blinded me for the best part of a day, then announced that I was fine. Hopefully the doctor will see the letter, check my records and say “Oh it’s that thing again. you’re fine”. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
