On day 2 we thought it’d be a good idea to head down to lake Windermere and try and hire a boat. When we got there we decided that it was far too expensive for not enough time and so we had lunch with a herd of angry (and hungry) swans and then opted for a round of pitch and putt instead.
The guy who ran it said that since we would be the last people he’d let on the course and he had far too much paperwork to do, he’d let us on for half price if we’d collect the flags up on our way round.
How much paperwork can there be on a pitch & putt course… (more…)

…from the lakes holiday posts.
It snowed very unexpectedly at the weekend (at least for those of us that aren’t paying attention to weather forecasts). Yes you read right. Snow. In Southern England. In April. The most unimpressed of us was Boxer, who we’d let out to play in the sun while we went off to church. 30 minutes later there was 6 inches of snow outside. He made sure we were aware of this when we got home.
We, on the other hand, were very impressed and started the afternoon with a quick geocache and snowball fight followed by an outing to Stanmer Park to try our hand at sledding.
Can’t wait for next April!

I’m following Dogga’s example and splitting this one into installments, since there’s a lot to show and tell.
We went to the Lake district on holiday last week with our friends Owen and Lou. It’s been a while since we’ve been away with anyone else and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
The entire photo album can be viewed here.
Though it may not have been quite as exotic as Finland, when we woke up on Easter Sunday it may as well have been:

We started the day off with a hearty Easter themed breakfast:

Then we set off on an 8 mile hike through the snow. It felt like we could have easily been in the alps or something:

Owen found a broken tennis racquet by the road. This amused him.

The sheep were clearly used to this sort of weather:

Owen and Lou demonstrating a kissing gate:

We did a couple of geocaches one of which was in the nearby village of Troutbeck

While we were there Owen decided that he’d found a small place that he needed to get into. So he did.

I got a bit arty while we were stood in the river

On the way to our second cache of the trip we noticed a lovely pair of cows making faces at us

It was about this point that we were hit by a short lived, but heavy blizzard which made the walk all the more fun. We took in a few more of the awesome views before we headed back

We finished off the snow filled day with a homemade hearty Sunday roast and then mooched in front of a film before heading to the land of nod.
And that was just day one!..
