The Lakes Part 2
On day 2 we thought it’d be a good idea to head down to lake Windermere and try and hire a boat. When we got there we decided that it was far too expensive for not enough time and so we had lunch with a herd of angry (and hungry) swans and then opted for a round of pitch and putt instead.
The guy who ran it said that since we would be the last people he’d let on the course and he had far too much paperwork to do, he’d let us on for half price if we’d collect the flags up on our way round.
How much paperwork can there be on a pitch & putt course…
Half way round we suddenly found ourselves playing in a snowstorm. Quite an odd experience, but really good fun! 20 minutes later and it was blazing sun again.
Since the weather had cleared up we decided to finish the day off with a BBQ (A barbie in the snow and the dark. It seemed perfectly logical at the time).

On the way to Keswick on Tuesday, we stopped near Ambleside for a quick cache. About a mile’s walk and we found some really scenic stepping stones.

On the other side Owen found himself a lovely bracelet and felt the need to pose.

After much searching, we found the geocache and took the obligatory finding photo:

As usual, I found somewhere high up to be

There was lots of cool things to climb on, so we took the opportunity to be silly:
And as for the scenery…

After we’d faffed about for long enough, we continued on to Derwent Water, picking up apple pie on the way. There we hired a rowing boat for considerably less than at Windermere, and had a laugh pottering about on the water. Owen was concerned that he would have to do some rowing:

We stopped on an island for lunch and claimed it as our own:
To finish off the day, we grabbed another couple of Geocaches, complete with photos

We finished the day with a meal at the Sun Hotel, 200 yards from our cottage which sported a ‘Good Food Served Here’ sign out front. We left agreeing heartily.
