Tuesday Challenge: Out Of The Frame

We weren’t allowed to have the subject of the photo in the frame this week, but had to leave sufficient clues in shot that they had been there and to show why they weren’t there any more, or something like that…

It was quite tough to get inspiration for this one, but when it came I took this shot:

Out Of The Frame

Rob Nose Day

My birthday is March 16th, and as is always the case, the nearest weekend coincides with Comic Relief.

To spice up the party this year, I’ve decided to invite friends over and watch the Red Nose Day coverage on my projector. A couple of friends whom I invited via a facebook event suggested I should call the event ‘Rob Nose Day’ instead, so that’s just what I did.

My tiny little imagination then couldn’t help but come up with this to put on the event page:

Rob Nose Day

To counteract the damage I’ve caused to the red nose day campaign be defiling their logo etc, can you all please visit www.rednoseday.com and donate lots of lovely money to them.

Thanks!

Yet another wedding…

You know in soap operas there is no such thing as a straight forward wedding? Either someone dies, or the bride runs away, or someone actually does know of a reason why these two people shouldn’t be joined in holy matrimony etc. Basically the kind of thing that doesn’t happen in real life

Well today…..   …it still didn’t.

We went to a wedding today which was a Greek Orthodox wedding with an English groom, a Cypriot bride and a Russian priest. No, it’s not a joke, this actually happened.

The ceremony was quite an experience. The Russian priest seemed to repeat things a lot, only ever spoke in song & wouldn’t do it unless accompanied by a humming woman in black who gave me the impression of being his mother. There was lots of kissing bibles & walking in a circle around the communion table and such like. At the end the whole congregation queued up to shake hands with the bride, kiss the groom (or vice versa) and then be armed with coloured rice to pelt the couple with as they left.

The reception was a much more traditional affair, great food, great wine etc. We were seated on table 2 with the bride’s siblings & cousins who were really nice and could mostly speak English. There were a few comical moments where we had to explain to them what a Yorkshire pudding was, and what the English best man meant in his speech by “Shat himself…”.

At one point I was in a conversation with a Cypriot guy and an Indian guy. The Cypriot spoke of how the Turks are causing chaos in Cyprus, turfing the Cypriots out of their family homes onto the streets and keeping the houses for themselves. The Indian commented that it’s much the same in Mumbai with the Muslims. I kept my mouth shut but thought to myself “Yes, our area is pretty bad too. The neighbourhood kids often buzz our flat then run away”…

We live in a very different world.

Earlier in the day I actually pulled my finger out and began editing a wedding I videod back in September. To be fair I had been waiting for the audio recording from the church until January.

Quite an eventful day all in all!

Tuesday Challenge: Blue

I saw the theme for this weeks challenge ‘blue’ while at work this morning & knew instantly what I wanted to do.

I rushed home and got to work straight away & here is the result:

Blue

When I’d downloaded the photos off my camera, I also discovered some photos that I took a couple of weeks ago & never looked at. I’m glad I did today cos I found this one:

Tuesday Challenge: One out of One

I decided to use my mobile phone for my entry this week. I spotted this while walking around Brighton on Saturday morning, waiting for most of my exhaust to be replaced.

Had some work done on the car too. *Snigger*

Simple Pleasures

Today everyone on our floor at work, except IT, went for a meeting in the boardroom. While they were gone, myself and a colleague dropped everyone’s office chairs as low as they’d go.

When they came back there was a chorus of “ooohh”s as they each sat down and dropped further than they’d expected!

It was rather obvious who’d done it as we were rolling around laughing…

Fun Monday

The host for this fun monday is ‘The Dust Will Wait’ and the assignment: “Show me in pictures or tell me in words what defines the place where you live”

I live at the UK’s Southernmost village on the Greenwich Meridian. Right on the cliffs edge is a monument and a paved line to mark where it leaves the country. When I first bought my camera I went down there to christen it.

The monument is hidden away behind some shops & I’m sure most people who pass through have no idea of it’s existence or purpose, but Whenever I think of this place, even before I lived here & we only passed through on our holidays, this is what I think of:

Tuesday Challenge: Red

I don’t feel I’ve done too well this week. I was really excited whilst taking the photos, but now that it’s here, it just doesn’t hold the impact that I thought it would. It’s the first time I’ve tried to use the RAW format and I think perhaps I’m missing something. The lighting isn’t right either.

Red

Well,  my plans for the weekend have been cancelled, so maybe I’ll find time to do something else and re-submit. We’ll see.

Another Date

Sarah decided to return the favour tonight & take me out on a date.

We came home a little early from work, fed the cat & then went into Brighton.

We had a nice meal at the Marina, where I finally had the dessert I’ve been wanting to try for years. Each time we go I see the ‘Brownie & Marshmallows with belgian chocolate dip’ and salivate, but fill up too much on the main course to actually order it. Well tonight I did. Sadly it didn’t live up to expectation…

After the food had settled we headed over to the Theatre Royal where Sarah had got us BOGOF tickets to the Blues Brothers Party.

I have a bit of an infatuation with the Blues Bros. About 10 years ago I went to the stage show two years running and had a fabulous time. The second year was their final tour. They announced in Nov 08 that they were doing a one off gig at a venue in Brighton, so I leapt into action to get tickets. Sadly the venue was rubbish and didn’t manage to get me any, despite me mega early enquiries, and so I was really disappointed

When I heard that these other guys were playing I didn’t expect them to live up to the standard set 10 years ago by the first group, but they did. We had a really awesome time.
