Dear HMV…

…thank you for your kind offer of a loyalty card with a sign-up fee of just £3.

Just bear with me a moment while I do the math…

  • Every £1.00 gets me 100 points, wow that sounds great!
  • The lowest price item available to buy with these points is a £10 voucher costing 40000 points. Hmm
  • That makes my 100 points worth, let’s see, umm… 2.5 pence

So I have to spend £40.00 before I get my £1 back. Ouch. But wait, it cost me £3.00 to sign up, so I must spend £120.00 just to break even!

And I just remembered, the cheapest thing you’d swap my points for was the £10 voucher for 40000 points, which means in order to get anything at all back, I have to go on to spend £400.00! And another £400.00 again and again for there to be any point in keeping it…

Thank you, but I think I’ll decline!
